Help make the earth a better place for us all

By using The Wild Fencing Company you are helping to support and maintain your local woodlands, boost biodiversity and provide a haven for a range of protected species.

We source our chestnut timber from within 5 miles of Petersfield. The hardwood timber we use is always A++ grade to ensure our customers get the best quality.

Our chestnut is coppiced which is an ancient woodland management practice dating back to the Stone Age. Every 3-15 years the chestnut is harvested from the stools/stumps which it grows from. The length of growing time depends on the size of timber needed. Once cut, the chestnut stool regrows new shoots and then begins the cycle of harvesting once again. By managing chestnut in this way the stools are kept in a juvenile state and the tree can live for a very long time if well managed.

Coppicing benefits wildlife because it constantly opens up the woodland floor. Coppiced woodlands are harvested on rotation. Once the tree canopy is removed and the timber is taken away to process, the woodland floor is flooded with light which encourages the growth of wildflowers and grasses. These species attract pollinators and insects of all varieties, thus encouraging other species like bats and birds to the forest floor.

We pride ourselves in the quality of timber we procure for our clients and we strive to provide a 5-star service for every project we take on. We work with all sorts of different timbers but love working with traditional chestnut fencing.
